Bryant and the younger one did the big travels this summer. They went to Iceland, Colorado, and Minnesota.
Iceland
We took advantage of the IcelandAir “layover” program on our way from Sweden to the US. We stayed 2 nights and had 2 nice experiences, along with some decent food.
In Reykjavik, we saw a famous church with a form that looks like basalt columns hinting at the volcanic nature of the island, and a sculpture called Jet Nest. We discovered that Reykjavik is a very relaxed place, and Iceland seems a bit like the casual mid-west, with some un-nordic colourful buildings. We did have some really nice food, including this awesome reindeer filet that L had.
On our full day, we did a tour around the Snaefelsnes peninsula, since out Glymur tour was cancelled due to us being the only participants. The peninsula is just about the most western part of Iceland, and boasts some amazing scenery with both sea, volcanic landscapes, basalt beaches, and snowy Snaefels mountain. Amazing! 5 stars! Totally recommend! And some crappy fish jerky. Zero stars. Do not recommend.
Since we did not get to do the Glymur hot springs, we decided to squeeze in a trip to the Blue Lagoon before we flew out. We did not take our phones into the spring as that seemed like asking for trouble, so all there are is some before and after pictures. But it was a really nice consolation for not getting the Glymur trip!
Colorado
We then flew to Colorado to visit my (Bryant’s) family. The first part was a bit of checking out my parents property where they are planning to build a house. Here are some samples of that view …
After that, we hit Georgetown, and L and Bryant went up Guanella Pass to check out the sights of Mt Bierstadt and the surroundings.
Part of the fun of going to Colorado is to get high up! So the next day we went to Mount Evans and went to the summit to enjoy that “top of the world” feeling that you only can get in the high mountains! Naturally the baby goats were the big hit!
Our last part to the visit was in town at the Denver Zoo, the Denver Museum of Nature and Science, and dinner with my brother!
Minnesota
This was mostly visiting friends, seeing L’s friends at the TCTC show, and checking the “what to eat in the US bucket list” – bagels, doughnuts, and Starbucks!
And then finally home!
