The days are getting shorter and cooler but the fountains are still bubbling as we try to soak up the sun whenever possible. Sofia’s visit during her first break from her school in Sogndal, Norway, where she’s spending a gap year, was super fun! It felt like old times when the girls played together between our homes on Oliver Avenue in Minneapolis.
The botanic garden in Lund will be closing soon for a 2 year renovation project, so I’ve been trying to visit often. The dahlias have been long-lived and fabulous this year and one of my favorite cafes is only open until the end of October. Not clear if they will open again during renovations or not, but Im guessing they will close that location. I took myself out for Botan lunch al fresco on Sunday while the crew were on a camping trip.
Besides the usual clubs and activities, I joined Lund International Choir. Initially I was just scoping it out for our grad. because she didn’t think the description sounded like a good fit for her. In the end I agreed with her assessment (though how could she really know without trying?!) because the member age range is mid 20’s to 70’s and the music is old fashioned… Swedish folk songs, Good Night Irene/ American Nostalgia, Ukraine’s National Anthem, Maori traditional etc…a crazy mix. But I thought it was fun and signed myself up. This week we start Christmas music and will perform a small concert on December 7th.
Since Lund’s central bus station moved to Clemenstorget, next to the train station, the plan is to create a new public space at the old Botulfsplatsen location. In the meantime, the city installed nice big planters and benches for a park-like vibe. The future design includes a wading pool water feature, a stage etc.
Also sprinkled in here are photos from trips to Malmö for the dentist and shopping.
On Friday night, in spite of bad weather and wind advisories, the fam decided to carry on with their plans for camping north of Kristianstad. They arrived in the dark after some intense off roading in the soon-to-be returned, leased vehicle. And in spite of my dire predictions, they had a great time. I will let them add some photos and their own narration of the grand adventure. My plans to see the final concert of the Choral Festival were scrapped due to the wild weather. Instead I enjoyed pizza with Stephanie followed by a cozy night in with Nori. I also made it to Malmö for lunch and shopping with the gals on Saturday despite the strangest train trip I’ve had in Sweden, due in part to weather disruptions. Afterwards I saw in the news that islands in the Baltic, such as Bornholm, suffered extensive storm damage. Luckily it was not so bad in land and falling trees were avoided!
