The Minnesota Noices

Lundabo Life

Lundabo = a person residing in Lund. With all of the recent changes in our family life, I think it will be good to establish a new routine. Next week I resume Swedish studies at Malmö University so I’ll be going to Malmö at least once per week. Today marks the end of two weeks of regular lessons in Hil’s Gotland program. She’s enjoying the classes and most of the orientation activities. She was assigned a “buddy” -an older student to help introduce newbies to Gotland, and he is from White Bear Lake, MN lol. Today her team won the Lamning- Orientation Battle. Maybe she’ll fill us in a bit on that tomorrow.

Ebba is flourishing at Katte. She enjoys the majority of her subjects and the freedom that comes with a larger, more open campus. Some of her classes are held in the astronomy buildings at Stadsparken, across the road from the main building. This means she can sometimes have lunch or a walk in the park. One day Carole, Andrea and I had a picnic there so she was able to join us! I didn’t take photos that day so here are some that show the area where we met for lunch and also the observatorium classrooms. Ebba also got herself a job at Svalorna, near our house. She’ll spend a couple hours per week assisting in various thrift store jobs. We are so proud of her for taking the initiative to set up this and other experiences for herself outside of school. She has been doing more cooking and cat care since Hil’s move to Visby as well!

We celebrated Bryant’s birthday at Mat och Destillat, across from the cathedral, the same place we went for his 2020 birthday when covid restrictions were in place. This time was more relaxed and we continued the tradition of a post-dinner stroll around Lundagård. due to construction of a new bike path through Lund Centrum, there is an opportunity to get a peak at what might be buried under Old Lund. There are always new discoveries, probably nothing as exciting as what they found in the 1960s, which I will write about in another post featuring a recent guided tour I experienced with the Citizens Hub. But they did find some pieces of the foundation of one of the first Katedralskolan buildings added through a large donation in the 1300’s.

We have gotten to know our neighbors even better since the American Happy Hour. My potted gingko tree was very rootbound and needed a new home so Kajsa offered a corner of their garden plot out at Brunnshög. It took a whole team to get the planter out there, with Bryant hauling it there by cargo bike, and me catching a ride with the Svardebrandts. They brought fika and got some garden chores done while we were there, so it was not an unpleasant couple of hours. We feel good about saving the tree which may need relocating someday, but it should be happy for a while.

The pink sky made for some showy clouds and reflections!
