The Minnesota Noices

All about Autumn

Fixardag (Fix-It Day) happens 2x per year- the residents in our building gather to help do some of the communal chores such as clean the laundry room, trash room and courtyard. Ebba and Isabella (both go to Katte but in different programs) took on the job of patching. I did lots of weeding and pruning and Bryant worked on various jobs like algae control, cleaning the pavement and other maintenance chores.

We’ve found lots of commonalities with our upstairs neighbors…kids of a similar age, cats, books, etc and they are letting us use a bit of their garden plot. They invited us for pumpkin carving and pumpkin soup. Then Ebba hosted a second carving party at our place for two friends.

The big day arrived a bit early for Erin’s annual Halloween bash. Ramesh has to travel over Halloween so they moved up the festivities. The costume theme was ALBUM COVERS. At this point the bar is set extremely high in the costume department so we all did our best to come up with a clever creation inspired by an album cover. Some couples or families chose one album and dressed as various components of the album cover: Guns and Roses, Bruce Springsteen, the Ed Sheeran math albums.

Some of us went with individual costumes… Taylor Swift, Blondie, Pink Floyd, Cold Play, Pirates of the Caribbean, Velvet Underground/Andy Warhol along with the hosts Amy Winehouse (Erin) and Johnny Cash (Ramesh). Bryant was Devo, I was Kamala from the Charli XCX brat album while Ebba was a dead ringer for Chappell’s Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess.

Bryant and Carolyn essentially tied for the prize in music jeopardy so he came home with some genuine American Everything But the Bagel seasoning!

As the mild Fall days race by we were preparing to visit our Visby girl and bring her another car load of stuff from home. But I kept being distracted by the many activities presenting themselves in October, book club, another cider making day, beautiful hiking weather… And finally we had the list completed and were on our way to Gotland! Now I’m at the hotel finishing up this post because it’s dark and rainy and we’ve already had a full day of adventures which will be on the blog someday soon.
